I could read this book a million times and probably get the same reaction as I did when I first read it! ( )

This was my first novel by Franklin White and I was totally disappointed. The story starts off very slowly and is very uninteresting. Mr. White also tells the story from a first person perspective but there is no smooth transition from one character to another. So the first couple of chapters are told from the main character, Khalil, perspective and then the following chapters switch characters - it takes a few pages of each chapter before the reader knows who is doing the narrating.

The author also appears to be long-winded - it seems what could have been told in a few pages, he used entire chapters and it just made the book drag for me. The author's choice of narration style made it hard for me to connect with the characters.

Overall, I found this book totally boring. I have to admit that by chapter 4, I was so bored, I started skipping pages only to find myself later skipping entire chapters. By the end of my commuter train ride (90 minutes), I had totally given up on the book.

While I will attempt to read at least one more book by Franklin White, it won't be any time soon. ( )
