THE LOOKING GLASS (THE LOCKET #2)
by Richard Paul Evans

A wonderfully detailed novel of the gold rush in Bethel, Utah, with complex characters who live there.

Hunter Bell is a disillusioned former pastor whose only desire is to be left alone.

Quaye is a severely abused and helpless young Irish woman with no prospects.

These two join together and become an unstoppable force.

Highly recommend. I read a hardcover, withdrawn library copy, and I love it.

Epigraph
I love thee with a love I semed to lose
With my lost saints, --I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Dedication
To Laurie Liss
First words
Connall McGandley trudged wearily across the haze-shrouded countryside, his arms crossed at his chest, his pace pressed against the receding twilight.
Prologue: There are those who find God in the order of the universe--evidenced in elements as small as atomic nuclei to forces as massive as the cosmic energy that holds galaxies at bay.
