Quirky first-hand look at a young girl growing up in London. She's obsessed with movie stars and drama. She falls in love with a pop star (a marginal gender-bender) and then, in a triumph of sorts, at the end, a real boy. The writing is superb and the voice is unforgettable (lots of 1990s pop references) but references to drugs, sex (off-screen), and self-mutilation) dictate that is not for every taste. ( )
