Could Anything Be Worse?: A Yiddish Tale by Marilyn Hirsh (raizel)
raizel: Could Anything Be Worse? is my favorite version of this story. The two books make an interesting contrast.

Peter goes off to the village wise man to find out what he could do about his noisy house. It seemed like a simple enough problem at the beginning, but more and more complications set in, in the forms of a donkey, a sheep, and a cow, to name a few, until it looked as though an entire farm had come to life right there in Peter’s house!

Too Much Noise is about a man who complain about having too much noise in his house, so goes to town for help. There's lots of repetition throughout the book and a lessen learned in the end. A great read for all ages, but elementary students especially. ( )

Too much noise is a great book to introduce to children because it teaches them levels of sounds. It is also a great book because it has repetition and predictable. I think children will enjoy this book because they would find it funny. The grade levels for this book would be pre-k and up. ( )

A secular version of a Yiddish folktale, "It Could Always Be Worse," good for young children---few words and lots of repetition. The rabbi has been replaced by a wise man and the unhappy occupant of a noisy home lives alone instead of with a large family. Interesting to compare it to Marilyn Hirsh's Could Anything Be Worse?, my favorite version. ( )
