I said Aluffi might be the best new algebra book; this is certainly one of the great modern algebra books as well, and is in a similar vein. A little more specialised - prerequisites would probably be most of Atiyah-Macdonald, or maybe the chapters on modules from Aluffi - but certainly well written, with excellent theoretical development and great geometric motivation.
