Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 964351157X, Paperback)

Sadeq Hedayat (1903-1951) was one of the 20th century's greatest writers. Born in Iran and educated in France, his works reflect the sense of alienation and self-destruction which was prevalent in European literature during the post-WWI era. Hedayat was also known as a gifted intellectual and essayist in his native country. This collection of short stories (the title story translates as "Buried Alive") is an excellent introduction to his work. Hedayat is often compared to Guy de Maupassant and Edgar Allen Poe, but his works are truly unique.
