This book summarizes the rich and varied life and career of US Senator Edward Kennedy (1932- 2009), with numerous photographs and accompanying biographical text. More than 200 photographs are included, many of which have never before been published. The biographical text was chiefly written by writers at The Boston Globe, who compiled the book. In addition, Kennedy’s fellow Massachusetts senator (and former Sec’y of State) John Kerry wrote the forward, and Boston Globe editor Martin Nolan supplied the introduction. The text also includes excerpts from interviews; and quotes from Kennedy himself as well as his colleagues.

The book is organized chronologically, with separate chapters devoted to Kennedy’s childhood; his college years and wedding; JFK’s presidential administration and assassination; Ted’s political career in the 1970s, 80s, and 1990s; his second marriage; and his political activities in the early 21st century. The photographs are of fine quality. All are rendered in gray scale, and many take up most of a full page.

This book is an excellent pictorial biography, and offers a valuable perspective on one of the most prominent political leaders of recent decades. ( )
