This is the first time that I have read this book and I am glad that I did. This is Sophie Dane's story. She is the sister of Julian Dane that was forced to get a divorce from the man that abused her and stole her fortune. After eight years of being banished from England Sophie returns. While for most of the first half of the book Sophie still has some problems with her self confidence she finally learns to stand up for what she wants. I think that she is a wonderful young lady that just needed the right person to care for her for who she is not for who her family and others would make her. She is intelligent, compassionate, and loving woman. She has endured so much scorn from society but she has never let it keep her from helping others. Sophie cares so much for her family and she really doesn't want to cause them any problems. I know that Julian loves Sophie but he just doesn't see that she isn't happy. I am glad that he finally came around.

I was very surprised by Caleb Hamilton. He is so much like a man that any of us would want forever. He is kind, loving, compassionate and so needing love. He has suffered all his life because he is a bastard. He has been kept outside for something that wasn't his fault. He loves his father and his father loves him. He has made his way in the world and has ever let it stop him from doing what he wants to better himself. He is a perfect match for Sophie. They are both outsiders in society and they both need the love of someone.

This is much better story than I ever thought it would be. There is a small misunderstanding but it is quickly resolved. This is also a story of betrayal and desperation. Trevor Hamilton was a nasty piece of work. He goes off the deep in and almost takes his and Caleb's father with him. It would be nice to see a book were he is finally redeemed but that is so unlikely. So few people ever get over their addiction. This is also a quick read. I definitely recommend this book. ( )
