A beautiful book of great influence but dubious value. The Druid garb illustrated is more fanciful than factual, most notably featuring a bronze-age breastplate on the Arch-Druid which dates a mere thousand years before the Druids arrived. The images in this book, first published in 1814, created misconceptions about Druids that held sway in the public imagination for 150 years. It earns its stars for its stunning oversized color plates, but if you are doing research, find another source. ( )
