Traces the origins and development of a style of decorative painting known in Italian as quadratura (illusionistic painting), a technical designation to describe decorative and ornamental work, primarily on ceilings, much of which, aside from its unique architectural emphasis, found many parallels thorughout th elong history of decorative painting of myriad genres.
