This is a spare historical fiction of a 19th century spiritual leader of the Kindom of Changamire, encompassing most of modern-day Zimbabwe. Leading in the city of Chitungwiza, the prophet Chaminuka from a young age grows in spiritual/magical powers and is quickly recognized as the most powerful spiritual leader of the time. The book documents Chaminuka's life in the context of the Kingdom's politics and other fiefdoms and leaders. As the book nears completion, the author expands into Chaminuka's completely revolutionary philosophies in a culture of war and achievement. Chaminuka was an advocate of peace and compassion. The book is structural and is almost completely focused on male figures and dialogues. It rewards those who stay with the book until the end. ( )
