Dan Dare was a popular sci-fi UK comic strip that was created by Frank Hampson for magazine Eagle. Titan books, God bless them, have reprinted these series. They are hard to come by anywhere online, so I was very happy to come across in BCL.

Dan Dar, our eponymous protagonist, is a captain of space fleet - as the tag line of the comic goes -'Captain of the Future'. In this book, Pescods and Ultimobes are beings from different space and need water from Earth's Oceans. They have deadly weapon, none like ever heard or known or earth. Dan Dare, along with this team of Digby, Flamer, Sir Hubert and Peabody must find a way to save the earth. ( )

This is the weakest of the series that I have read so far, begins well but the end is disappointing, it felt very rushed and as if the ideas had run out. ( )

It’s chocks away once again as Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future, returns! First published in classic British comic Eagle, this is perhaps the most seminal adventure of one of Britain’s best-loved characters, presented in a gorgeous library edition.

When transmissions are disrupted throughout the Solar System and spaceships — including one carrying Sir Hubert — disappear, Dan and Co set out to discover what’s going on. They find a fleet of huge alien craft containing peaceful aquatic creatures called Cosmobes, who are fleeing from another aquatic race, the warlike Pescods.

But the Pescods have a deadly weapon, the "Crimson Death"... and they’re heading for Earth! Will Dan and his crew be able to once again save the day?
