Este libro defiende la imagen como una forma del pensamiento, quiere fomentar un uso socialmente responsable de la misma y señalar que una de las principales obligaciones de la imagen en la prensa es crear referencias distintas a las televisivas, que son las que dominan la iconosfera y determinan los modelos de comportamiento humano en todo el mundo. Aquí se defiende la actitud crítica ante la fascinación por la velocidad de los cambios que se están produciendo y la clarificación de los mensajes que nos llegan, sin renunciar al disfrute estético y emocional.
