When millionaire Bruce Dunbar is found dead by snake bite, his pet cobra loose in his room, it seems like a simple accident... until Fleming Stone discovers that the bite doesn't match the snake, and four separate wills are unearthed, each leaving the fortune to a different family member.

With a tight plot and interesting characters, this is a fairly sound offering from the later part of Wells' career. Fleming Stone is involved from the outset, and does quite a lot more footwork and actual detecting than in many of his earlier stories, where he tends to appear at the last minute to unravel the puzzle that has defeated the local authorities.
