My Cafe Cubano is the diary of Daniela Isabela Badilla begun on August 5, 1958, after the tragic death of a beloved cousin. Thus, begins a story of loss and suffering under Fidel Castro's regime. The novel chronicles a coffee baron's family as they face the consequences of communist dictatorship and the subsequent demise of their business, wealth and way of life in Cuba. It is a moving tale about coming of age, loss of innocence and self-imposed exile in the search for personal freedom.
