Celia and Fernando, a long-married couple suddenly childless after their only daughter marries, embark on a cruise to the islands of the Caribbean to revitalize their sagging marriage. With the complicity of another passenger, the mysterious Julieta, the couple loses themselves and their inhibitions as they turn to others to fulfill their fantasies of passion and destruction. Through a series of adventures, Celia and Fernando bring themselves to the brink of ecstasy and self-annihilation. Juxtaposed with their story is a series of lyrical love letters to "Angela" from "Abel", two lovers with a secret of their own, their passion explored but not explained until the very end, when their fate mirrors that of Celia and Fernando. The Last Night I Spent With You confronts the mysteries of death and desire with subtlety, dark humor, and elegant prose.… (more)

Mayra Montero's book The Last Night I spent With You is as hot as the Caribbean itself. A couple named Calia and Fernando go on a cruise after their daughter Elana is married. They live their fantasies while on the cruise and learn about each other. Very erotic without being highly explicit. A shorter book more of a novela but written in the spirit of the great Spanish writers. ( )
