( ) I so enjoyed Heaven's Fire (book 2 in this series) that I just had to read this one (book 1). However, I was seriously disappointed but I shouldn't have been surprised. I'm finding that I'm too much of a feminist to really enjoy reading some medieval romances with the way women are treated. I loved the hero, Rainulf from Heaven's Fire - he's a kind, honorable man. And Falcon's Fire is the story of his half sister, Martine, who had a difficult childhood. Rainulf rescues Martine and takes her someplace safe to live. Now Martine is grown up and Rainulf needs Martine to repay his kindness to her. She agrees to wed a complete stranger. Thorne hopes to advance his station in life and gain land of his own by providing this bride, Martine, who is a distant cousin to the Queen, to the son of Baron Godfrey. Thorne is a commoner and the Baron's falconer. Thorne and Martine have an instant attraction. The baron's son and his brother were just so over the top evil. It was painful to read the way they treated people and animals. But I suppose it was pretty realistic to the times. While I loved Thorne who was a great hero, I just could not like Martine. She has convinced herself that she will never fall in love because of the way her mother was treated by her father. And she doubts Thorne loves her. I hated how she took so long to realize her feelings for Thorne, I just wanted to shake her. There was quite a bit of time when I just could not see a HEA for them especially when Martine is about to be burned at the stake. But I did like the ending. Overall, a pretty good read, but I thought Heaven's Fire was much better. no reviews | add a review
