I guess I need to stop reading Lora Leigh. I have read most of the books in this series not counting the ones that came out originally on ebook. The idea is good and the plots are better than in the rest of her books but that's not saying much. I have liked Jonas in the other books and I liked him here. I hated, hated, hated Rachel. She was stupid and vapid and vacillitating and we didn't know enough about her to care. She was like a cardboard cutout.

What I dislike most about this author is the way she ignores what she's already written previously in the book in order to throw in an angsty sentence or something. For example here on page 150 Rachel askes Jonas if he loves her. He answers "yes I love you." Then, on page 180, Rachel is in distress because: "She was falling in love with him, and she couldn't help it. There were just so many ways Jonas proved his complete dedication to her. His hunger for her. His need. His determination to protect her.

He didn't call it love. To him, she was his mate, pure and simple. The one gift God had given him that could never belong to another man.

But he didn't call it love. He didn't recognize it as love."

WTF? 30 pages ago he flat out told you he loved you. But I forget. You're stupid.

This happens all the time in Ms. Leigh's books. Also, as usual in her books muddy motivations all around. Also the waffling on the part of both Jonas and Rachel about whether to mate/hop in bed was not realistic or motivated or explained well. When they finally did do the deed, I found myself really not caring much. These scenes left me pretty ho hum. So pretty typical for her books. Cover's nice though. ( )

I really liked Jonas' story. I like that there's another child involved before the mating like with Dash's story. I like how completely Rachel changes Jonas' outlook on life and how to responds to other people. The drama with Amber's father added some adrenaline to the story, while whatever Brandenmore did to Amber added some mystery and intrigue. I look forward to seeing Jonas and Rachel in future books, and can not WAIT to see who it is that Ely has mated! Though on that note, this is the first book where Ely truly made me angry. ( )

Finally have Jonas with a mate and of course his mating heat is different than other Breeds. Rachel is pregnant when he meets her but he accepts her daughter as his own. Wonder who's story is next? Ely, Cassie, Erin or fast forward to Amber or David.

Disappointed that we didn't get more of a history than the tidbits on Jonas. Really didn't get to learn much about Rachel either. ( )

I love Jonas!! I really wanted to love his mate but sadly found her lacking. She seemed a bit too gentle for the conniving breed. Overall an enjoyable read but not an absolute fav. I was hoping for a Jonas and Ellie match. ( )

2.5 out of 5 stars, it was okay. I mean it's not the typical shifter books that I have read, so yes it was interesting but it didn't completely hold my interest. However, I think what I didn't like most about the book was Rachel. I mean I liked her and Jonas together. BUT -- for all of Rachel's knowledge of the shifter breeds and knowing that she was working for them before she even knew that she was Jonas' mate .... she kept denying the "claim" between herself and Jonas for sooo long that I really was getting sick of it after a while. =0/
