Even though I knew what the story was going to be since i had read the short story this came from, it still was different enough it wasn't like i was reading the same thing. And it was lovely. I like the books Mercedes lackey writes, she is good at creating a believable world and people to populate it. This series starts off very strong though I do feel that it falls off a bit as it progresses. It is truly readable and enjoyable. Pleasantly surprised by this serf through dedication developing skills and escaping servitude. Egyptian themed world building enjoyable and engaging for me too. Look forward to the remainder of the trilogy. 3.5 stars. I really liked this book but then I haven't found a book about dragons that I haven't liked yet. I wish the dragons had more personality though. I guess I was spoiled by the Dragonriders of Pern. no reviews | add a review
