Ward book, and I don't know how I missed out before! I both loved and hated Jim and Vin, and Jim's fallen angel buddies are highly questionable. LOL But this is the first book I've read where the female part of the romance is a prostitute. (I've read a couple with *former* prostitutes, though.) It was a fabulous read and I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read the next book! ( ) I’d heard so many great things about J.R. Ward when I was in the publishing business, and yet I hadn’t gotten around to reading anything by her until last month. From the first page, Covet held me spellbound. Ward’s writing is just as stellar as I’d been led to believe. She’s a master wordsmith, painting vivid pictures with every sentence. I often went back and re-read a passage, because it was so striking. I found myself highlighting turns of phrase often, too. What can I say? The woman knows her craft, and wields it expertly. But at about the 40% mark, I found I was picking up the novel less and less. The story started to lose steam. I didn’t care quite as much about what happened to the characters. I went longer and longer between reading sessions, until I finally had to admit I wasn’t interested anymore. Ward’s gorgeous prose just couldn’t keep me engaged after a certain point, which is a shame, because she’s amazingly talented. I look forward to trying another book by her — but not one in this series. Loved this! This is the second time I’ve read this, though it’s been several years. I enjoyed more the second time around. I love the way J.R. Ward writes the interactions between the characters and builds the story around them. This book is a great introduction for someone who has never read J.R. Ward. There’s a little something for everyone it seems. Romance, suspense, love able characters, an adorable pet, supernatural, action…yeah a little bit of everything. after trying to decide between Black Dagger and the Fallen series I went with the fallen books. -I dunno why- I read many, oh so many reviews of both Black Dagger Brotherhood and the Falen Angel series that made them out to be wonderful and exciting, and admittedly the covers kinda swayed me too. So anyways, I get this here book Covet and i begin with great expectations, or at least something of great interest. After the first three chapters I had pretty much decided, this book was going to be a Stephen King novel -Aka mind-numbingly descriptive and unnecessarily long.- So after reading five sentences of (example as wouldn't like to add spoilers on decor or anything) how a rug was red like the curtains but not quite the same apple red, and the boiling noisy kettle was silver and so clean you could pick a spot in front of it like the mirror in Jims bathroom that's hung above a marble sink with a gold plated nail blah blah blah.... I began skim reading. skim skim skim yawn *wait what was that, skips back a few sentences and smiles, Christian Laboutin good taste.* reads some before being bombarded with description. skim skim skim *chapter 16 ugh!* -puts book down and never returns- I wouldn't rate this book if I had managed to finish it, mostly due to the fact the author seems to have spent hours of effort with her description i wouldn't want to insult the dedication. Will not be reading more from the series nor the BDB. no reviews | add a review
"Redemption isn't a word Jim Heron knows much about--his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charged with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins. And failure is not an option. Vin diPietro has surrendered himself to his business--until fate intervenes in the form of a tough-talking, Harley-riding, self-professed savior, and a woman who makes him question his destiny. With an ancient evil ready to claim him, Vin has to work with a fallen angel not only to win his beloved over...but to redeem his very soul."--p.[4] of cover. No library descriptions found. |
