This only gets two stars because it's part of one of my favorite series. Otherwise, one it would be. I don't know what happened with this book. Did she just write this one because she HAD to? I was happy to be done with this. Hopefully when I get around to reading the next one, it will be better. ( )

This book kept me on my emotional toes. Sookie is growing up and I can't wait to see what happens next. ( )

Not very satisfying in terms of progressing Sookie's story (I mean, she didn't even change boyfriends once!), but at least no pregnant ladies died. What a relief.

I liked Sookie bonding with her little telepathic cousin and mega-bonding with her fairy cousins, but I am sick of Eric calling Sooking "my lover." He's getting to be as boring as Bill. I'm hoping Sookie and Sam finally give it a go in the next one.

Note to self: I shouldn't watch the HBO series and read the book on the same day. I get so confused. ( )

some truly rancid plot to stomach but oh my god the catharsis of the ending... feeling very emotional over the family the relief the defeating of one's makers of it all

I read the first nine of these books probably 10 years ago and was worried that I wouldn't have any idea what was going on but there was enough explanation of what happened in the last book that I could follow without any problem.

Sookie and friends are never without some kind of emergency and trouble and this, of course, was no different. All the regulars are there, whether you love them or hate them, and everyone is trying to get over the Fairy War. Without fail, more and more issues arise and Sookie is apparently the only one who can solve everyone's problems. It's the same song and dance that you're used to with the rest of the books...not that it's necessarily a bad thing. I like the books and there's never a dull moment in them, and why mess with a formula that works?

All in all, a good addition to the series. A pretty quick read with a decent amount of action. It's what you'd expect from a Sookie book. ( )

Harris is no mean shakes at romance — Erik may be dead, but he's still hot — and she serves up the paranormal thrills and juggles her enormous cast with ease. But more to the point, she seamlessly blends all this into a lovingly observed portrait of small-town Louisiana.
