I utilized this book many times duing my undergraduate music degree. A wonderful book, full of insights and linking music with the art and the political and economic climate at the time.

I used this book in some college liberal arts requirement (western culture, arts survey, something.) It offers a perspective of art as part of the culture that birthed it rather than just paintings and such. (
