If you are looking for a book that contextualizes Heidegger in the wider intellectual setting ( Sitz im Leben ) in which he operated, this is an excellent place to start. It focuses on his influences and what he was trying to accomplish. However, if you are looking for a book that introduces you to Heidegger's thinking for the first time, it is a very poor place to start. For that I would recommend Heidegger (The Routledge Philosophers) ( http://www.librarything.com/work/12426919/book/96599963 ) ( )
