It's not easy being named Oswald, not in the city where Lee Harvey grabbed his fifteen minutes of infamy and choked it to death. It's especially hard when half the town seems determined to kill you for reasons as murky as the river that splits the city in two. For Lee Henry Oswald, a private investigator, Gulf War vet, and terminal loner, it's just one more burden to face as he trudges through the gritty underbelly of the concrete and glass metropolis that is Dallas in the new millennium. A simple assignment turns deadly when Oswald asks the right questions in the wrong places, and finds himself drawn into a shadowy world of smooth-talking drug lords and double-dealing real estate developers. In the end, he learns that blood is not always thicker than water, especially the muddy tributaries of the Trinity River, where he confronts the deadly results of his own decisions as he races to save the life of his partner.Reminiscent of the tightly wrapped works of Dennis Lehane and Michael Connelly, "Still River" is a startling debut mystery.… (more)

I like Hunsicker and his characters. I know this is a work of fiction, but it was hard for me to get some of the settings around my head. I am from Dallas, and have never seen, nor heard of a F150 being shot up by a Mack-10 close to Fair Park without someone dying. This is Hunsickers debut novel, and it shows great depth and character building. I think anyone who enjoys Noir, will enjoy his series. ( )

Probably the greatest interest for this book is its Dallas setting. It does for Texas for James Lee Burke does for southern Louisiana. If you like noir PI books, you'll probably like this one. ( )

Great noir...it’s always fun to discover a new author... I have to admit I was a little put off by the name of the Hero- "Lee Henry Oswald" and the fact it was in Texas... Dallas no less but it is good writing with a good story. ....Our Hero Lee is questioning someone who shares the same office as him..." Davis sat at his desk with a cup of black coffee, a glass of water fizzing with Alka-Seltzer and the daily racing form... He glanced at me for half a second, and then turned back to reading. "What do you want?"... "Information" I pulled up on of his two extra chairs and sat down. "Ever heard of Callahan Real Estate Company?".... "No" He took a sip of coffee. : How about a guy named Charlie Wesson?"... "Uh-uh."... "Have you stopped beating your wife?" Davis looked up and smiled a rare occurrence. "I m currently not married. Perhaps you would be referring to an ex-wife?" I chuckled. He was more awake than I thought.".... Our hero is a Dallas boy ... ex gulf war... interesting Noir! ( )
