This full-colour handbook highlights the rich & extensive collection of antiquities that is to be found in the National Gallery of Victoria. Numbering over 2000 objects, the collection ranges in date from the 5th millenium BC through to the 16th century AD. It includes works from Egypt, the Near East, the Graeco-Roman world and the Pre-Columbian cultures of Mesoamerica. This publication contains over one hundred colour images, a forward by Dr Gerard Vaughan, Director of the NGV, and several contributors including Amanda Dunsmore, Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts (International), NGV, Dr Colin A. Hope, Director for the Centre of Archaeology and Ancient History, Monash University and Honorary Curator of the Egyptian Collection, NGV, and Judith Ryan, Senior Curator of Indigenous Art, NGV.
