1501 Saint Dominic and His Times, by M.-H. Vicaire, O.P. translated by Kathleen Pond (read 25 Dec 1978) I found this a tedious, poorly-organized--it was compiled, not written--book and I was glad to be finished reading it. St Dominic died August 6, 1221, at an age less than 50. He lacked prudence in his care of himself, and one wonders if such abuse of his physical condition could really be what God wanted of him. He was canonized by Pope Gregory IX in July 1234, less than 13 years after his death..(But St. Peter of Verona died 6 April 1252 and was canonized 9 March 1253--the fastest canonization in history--though he was martyred, which no doubt made it easier to have him canonized.)
