Touching on readers' memories of the attrocities of the Yuzzhan Vong wars and Cade's memories of his youth as a Jedi padawan, this is the most emotionally frought collection of this series yet. Blue's (and Cade's own) life is at stake since she has been infected with an alien virus by the master poisoner of the Sith, Darth Maladi, and only Cade's Force abilities can possibly save her. The authors are being a bit predictable in their storytelling, since Cade must clearly use his healing abilities through the light side of the Force (something that he was not convinced until now was possible) and turn away from the dark side, but I rather liked how even after he has made the right choice Cade turns around and retains his independence between both the light and dark sides of the Force. If nothing else, Cade is not like any Skywalker before him! ( )

This is probably the best post-Vector collection of Legacy.  Following a bounty, Cade Skywalker and friends head to Wayland-- the planet where everything went wrong for him as a boy.  It was on Wayland that the Sith first sabotaged the Ossus Project, the beginning of the ruin of young Cade's life.  This time around, things don't go any better.  Cade's lover, Delilah Blue, is captured by a rogue Sith who wants to know if Cade can heal her of a poison she plans to unleash.  If Cade's immense Dark Side healing powers can't save her, no one can.  The result of this is the best Cade-nearly-turns-to-the-Dark-Side yet, as instead of just seeing the rage that Cade is always fighting to contain, we also finally see the love he can't bring himself to admit.

Elsewhere in the galaxy, events are coming to a head, as Roan Fel's rebel Empire seeks an Alliance with the Jedi, who are at last emerging from hiding with the death of Darth Krayt.  This is all good stuff, too-- it's nice to see the Jedi finally doing something, not to mention Nyna Calixte finally revealing where she stands-- but I have two niggling problems.  The first is that Princess Marasiah Fel, one of my favorite characters in the first volume of Legacy, finally returns here... and does absolutely nothing.  I almost didn't notice she was in it. Lame.  Second, Azlyn Rae reappears, after having been put in a Vader-esque support suit during the events of Storms... in a new suit that's barely noticeably different from her Imperial Knight armor.  So what was the point of all that, then?  Lame.

There's also another Gar-Stazi-is-the-Biggest-Badass-in-Outer-Space side story in this volume, too.  All is well.

I read this ninth volume of Legacy immediately after the ninth (and final) volume of Knights of the Old Republic. Where KOTOR was poorly drawn and not very compelling, Legacy continues to be an interesting tangle of political factions, armies, and loyalties. We have Jedis, Sith, Yuuzhan Vong, two brands of Imperial, the remnant of the Galactic Alliance, pirates, and Cade Skywalker, who isn't sure where he fits with all those groups. This comic is well written and the art is consistently clean.

Edit: I just read bte101's review where it was noted that this series has been canceled. Disappointing news, but I am looking forward to the final volume (since I read these only in their trade paperback releases) to see if they at least tie everything up somewhat neatly. Still, I am sad to see this fairly rich setting go to waste when the Clone Wars era, for instance, is done to death. ( )

While the Jedi plan to make alliance with Emperor Roan Fel to oppose the Sith, Cade Skywalker continues to dance along the knife edge between the Light and Dark Sides of the Force. A very fast-paced story, leaving me impatient for the conclusion. ( )
