"Twins Eliot and Fiona Post are caught up in an epic custody battle. Their mother is Immortal goddess Atropos, the Eldest Fate, and their father is Lucifer, Lord of the Infernals, a diabolical fallen angel. Together, the twins have faced life-threatening challenges and family strife, and have conquered all. Now they are facing their greatest trial--high school. The Paxington Institute is no normal school, though. It's a place where gods, goddesses, and the mortal magical families harness their powers; where a class debate can end in a duel; and your classmates aren't simply friends or enemies, but threats to your life or allies in battle. To flunk is to die--only the toughest graduate. Fiona and Eliot struggle to keep up their grades and survive the rigorous training, with both their families watching. High school is bad enough, but family life keeps getting worse and worse for Eliot and Fiona with the beginnings of the ultimate Immortal/Infernal struggle--Armageddon!"--P. [4] of cover.… (more)

All I can say is W.O.W.! I cannot believe how good this series is. Mr. Nylund challenges my imagination and my vocabulary while weaving a fabulous world that is the right mix of reality, mythology and his own whatever it is.
Here it comes--my one critisism--I found myself wishing that the two main characters, Fiona and Eliot were closer. They are twins that grew up with only themselves to talk to and lean on, but since I'm not a twin and don't know the complexities of that type of relationship, I can't complain too much.
This is one of those books that you nervously check to see how far you've gotten--because you know it won't be long enough, but thats the price we pay for reading series books. Also, its not like the author skimped on size, the book is over 700 pages for goodness sake!
I'm sure that like its predecessor, this one will end up on my Best of 2010 list, man this was good. I'm looking forward to many re-reads
Mr. Nylund will be joining the likes of Ilona Andrews, P. Briggs, Sanderson and Weeks on my favorite writers list. ( )

I really enjoyed Mortal Coils, the first book in this series, but this second book just blew me away. It was wonderful! So much happened! It's a massive book. It could have actually been divided into 2 or even 3 books, but I'm glad it wasn't because this way I got to read it all at once. Creative and interesting with some real surprises that I didn't see coming. That is hard to do these days when there is so much YA fantasy being written. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series and seeing where things go from here! Highly recommended!!!

Sadly, I read on the author's website that the publisher has declined more books in this series (the series was supposed to have 5 books total). The author has been fighting to regain the rights of the first two books in order to try to re-release them with the followup books, but so far it seems he has not been successful. So frustrating! These books are so good, I don't know what the publisher is thinking! ( )

This is a tremendous book! The intrigues are fascinating. The characters are so appealing! The book is written for teens, but as an adult I thoroughly enjoy it, much more than the Harry Potter books. It's going to drive me crazy waiting for the next one to come out. I probably don't finish half the books I read due to lack of interest, but this series sure keeps me coming back, for every single chapter. ( )

This book picked up perfectly from Mortal Coils the first in the series but was written in a way that if you had not read the first book you could still follow along and become hooked.
The twins are faced with not olny going to a new school and dealing with a disfunctional family(immortals and infernals how more opposite can two sides of a family be) but also with their own growing up which may lead them to grow apart. This book seems to develpoe each of the twins into more of their own character instead of just a half of a set of twins. I can't wait for the next book to come out. ( )
