Jacob "Yasha"" Livingston is having a bad day. First there is the head cold. Then the orgy, the fight, and the hospital. Between that and the bus driver who ejects himā??after accusing him of transmitting the Swine Fluā??the rest of his day seems fairly vague. Now he's stuck in a small town called Santo Ignacio and he has a whole lot of thinking to do. One thing is, when fate speaks in the form of an EMT, maybe it's time to listen.

One man in particular, EMT Jason "JT" Lents, with his shy smile and jade green eyes, seems more like an angel than a paramedic. But Jason has a date with a newer, prettier girl every night, despite the fact that he seems to return Yasha's interest. What will make JT happy? If JT is afraid of his feelings it might be Yasha's chance to heal the healer. For this couple to find their way, it's up to Jacob, his new friends, and the magic of St. Nacho's… (more)

Still not pleased with this narrator. ( )

This series just keeps getting better! I really loved the character of Jacob/Yasha and I really started getting annoyed at JT's waffling of what he wanted. Yasha was such a sweet guy and I love how he just fell in with Mary Catherine and her pie business. It is great to see the guys from the other books, even if it is just a small mention. I am really looking forward to Daniel's story! :-) ( )

Too much violence right away. ( )

I was only going to give Jacob's Ladder 4 Stars at first but only because I wanted MORE! I wanted at least another 100 pages to show me what happens with JT and Yasha. And Daniel. And Cam. But then I had to give 5 Stars for that very same reason! These characters are so real - heroes on the one hand and so very human in their foibles and insecurities on the other. An excellent addition to the St. Nacho's series and definitely worth reading! ( )

This series has just grown in quality. I have read other books by Z.A. Maxfield, but they always seem to be a bit dark and harsher than this series. We get angst in this book, but not too much.

I really liked Yasha (AKA Jacob), he is such a fractured soul. He is not broken, like previous books, but rather someone who is a survivor. We get Jason who is the gay man "in the closet", which is something that many gay romances do not touch. We might have the "Gay for you" or the "proud and out", but rarely have I come across a book with a character who comes out for a lover.

I enjoyed this book, keep in mind that it is mostly about the relationship, so no great mystery to solve. LOTS of sex. ( )

For my Opa, who was no Zeyde, but wore a wool felt fedora as well as any man ever did.

Big thanks to author Jeanne Barrack for sharing her wisdom and offering suggestions. Any cultural errors are mine alone.
First words
I stood outside the door to the restaurant kitchen, giving myself a much-needed break. Unlike the waiters and busboys, who sneaked outside to smoke, I liked a cloud-gazing break when I could get one.

Book description
From Loose Id:Jacob "Yasha"" Livingston is having a bad day. First there is the head cold. Then the orgy, the fight, and the hospital. Between that and the bus driver who ejects him -- after accusing him of transmitting the Swine Flu -- the rest of his day seems fairly vague.

Nacho's.
