With Mion's name clearly printed among the names of those killed in Hinamizawa twenty years ago, suspicion for the murder falls on her. But Mion isn't the only one whose story doesn't quite add up. How did the killer know Otobe's was the only phone with a signal? How could Otobe's friends have simply "disappeared"? Is it really the work of demons, or is there a murderer among them?… (more)

So, maybe it raised an eyebrow or two to use words like "nostalgia" and "natsukushii" in regards to Higurashi when I reviewed the first volume of this arc. I'll answer that I do so because I don't really think the horrible, violent deaths are the point of Higurashi at all. If that was what I actually thought it was about, I wouldn't be interested at all. Higurashi as a whole is about bonds of friendship and a sense of place.

But not this particular book. This specific book is really much more like Umineko -- a supernatural puzzle. I'm not disappointed by the answers, but it's definitely a one-off pair of books. ( )
