Astonishingly beautiful illustrated version in adorable miniature. (

AbeBooks featured this illustrator last week, and since my name is Ruth and I love illustrated books, I decided I needed to own this one. Prices ranged from over $700 to about $20. I thought this would be a spectacularly beautiful book, so I was slightly disappointed. For all the raving that AbeBooks did, I think Szyk is not as good as Maude Petersham. I'm glad to add it to my collection, but it doesn't sit on the top of the pile. (

Book description

Artist, illustrator, Arthur Szyk created 'Persian miniature' illustrations of several books of the Bible and other Jewish texts. The Heritage Press collaborated with him in several publications for their book club members, creating deluxe versions in slipcases. Permission to include a chapter from Mary Ellen Chase's book "The Bible for the Common Reader" was obtained.
