Lily's mother has planted a wonderful garden for her daughter and one day Lily takes a new path through it. The plants on the path each call to her and explain why they are significant for India, e.g., the jasmine plant, the banyan tree, the marigolds, the coconut tree, the neem tree, the mango tree, the tea plant, and the lotus flower. Glossary at the end listing each plant, plus list of Indian festivals, and instructions on how to grow your own marigolds.
