I am completely hooked on this Will Trent series of novels! Karin Slaughter is a masterful storyteller with complex, likable characters. I couldn’t be happier that Sara Linton, from the Grant County series, is a part of these stories. She is my favorite character, in any series, for her strength, compassion, and perseverance. Fallen is the fifth book in the series and I was immediately mesmerized by the story.

Right from the beginning, alarm bells are ringing in Faith Mitchell’s mind when she can’t reach her mom, Evelyn Mitchell, on the phone. Faith arrives at her mom’s house to find blood on the door and her infant daughter hidden in a shed. She disregards her training and enters the house to find a dead man in the laundry room, and a hostage situation in her mother’s bedroom. Even more terrifying is that Faith still hasn’t found her mom. Total chaos ensues and Faith finds herself at the center of an investigation. The calvary of Amanda, Will Trent, and Sara Linton come to Faith’s aid. The three work tirelessly to make sense of why Evelyn was kidnapped and where she is being held.

Karin wrote yet another outstanding novel that is filled with suspense and a case of strong women characters. I also love the direction the relationship between Will and Sarah is headed.

I borrowed the audiobook version from my local library through the Libby App. Kathleen Early is a wonderful narrator.

I have photos that I'm unable to include here. It can all be found on my blog, in the link below.

Fallen (Will Trent #5) By Karin Slaughter

Faith finds her Mother (Evelyn) missing and a dead man in her laundry room , she is alrmed. When the situation turns deadly Faith is questioned. It is up to Will and his boss (Amanda) to find Evelyn and catch a killer.

The story moves at a steady pace, with attention to details, engaging dialong and pulse pounding suspense. Complex well developed characters adds to the compelling plot. A slow burn with (shocking) secrets revealed. I was hooked form the first page until the last.

Overall I found Fallen quite enjoyable. Karin Slaughter has become one of my favorite suspense crime/thriller Authors. I look forward to more in the Will Trent series. ( )

Fallen (2011) (Will Trent #5) by Karin Slaughter. This is not the first book in the Will Trent series you should read. To take on this one and enjoy it to its fullest you should really read the series in order. I say that so when I say this book is centered around Faith Mitchell and her mother, you will have a good idea of what that means. Read this as a starter if you dare, you can read any of this series as a stand alone, but to get the most out of any of them, start at the beginning.
Faith is Will’s partner and a single parent with a new child. After work she goes to pick up the baby from her mother’s house, mom being a former cop herself, to find a dead guy in the laundry room, a lake of blood shed over the place and a bad guy holding a gun to what is quite possibly another bad guy. In fact, in this book bad guys are almost falling over themselves to get into the way of a bullet, which happens to one of the guys in the living room (ironic name considering). Oh, and mom is missing but the baby is just fine once Faith makes the scene.
Another tough, well written exercise that allows a character other than Will to take main stage while still having him continue his exploration into what might be a path out his his troubled past and present. This is an ample addition to a fun and growing series with a width of great characters, puzzles and complexities enough to keep you more than just interested, and a budding romance that may end in calamity for all involved.
I couldn’t put it down. ( )

Fallen
4 Stars

In the aftermath of a deadly home invasion in which her mother is abducted, GBI agent Faith Mitchell is forced to confront some harsh truths about her own past and that of her parents. Soon Faith, together with her partner Will Trent and Dr. Sara Linton, begins to uncover a web of lies and deceit that goes back twenty years to a fateful decision that will change the lives of everyone involved forever.

With her excellent balance between fast-paced plotting and captivating character development, Karin Slaughter is a first-class writer.

While the eventual plot twist becomes quite obvious at a certain point, the mystery surrounding Evelyn Mitchell's kidnapping is engrossing and the investigation is action packed. However, it is the focus on Will's relationships with the women in his life that is the true highlight of the book. Whether it be standing up to Amanda's passive-aggressive intimidation, putting a stop to Angie's malicious machinations, solidifying his partnership with Faith, or taking the first tentative steps toward a significant relationship with Sara, Will is finally taking the necessary steps to secure the future that he wants for himself.

Speaking of Will and Sara's romance, their interactions are both charming and frustrating. It is obvious to one and all that they are a perfect match, yet they will have to overcome their own insecurities and inhibitions in order to truly be together.

All in all, a supremely satisfying read and I look forward to continuing on to the next one.

"Special Agent Fith Mitchell returns home to a nightmare. Her baby daughter Emma has been locked outside, and there's a trail of blood to the front door."
Per usual, Ms. Slaughter writes a complex story that compels the reader to speculate as to the reason for the murders and manipulation. Nothing can prepare you for the unbelievable ending. Wow . . . just wow! ( )

Still more proof, if any were needed, that the most monstrous demons in Grant County, Ga., are lurking in the master bedroom.

Book description
There’s no police training stronger than a cop’s instinct. Faith Mitchell’s mother isn’t answering her phone. Her front door is open. There’s a bloodstain above the knob. Her infant daughter is hidden in a shed behind the house. All that the Georgia Bureau of Investigations taught Faith Mitchell goes out the window when she charges into her mother’s house, gun drawn. She sees a man dead in the laundry room. She sees a hostage situation in the bedroom. What she doesn’t see is her mother. . . .

“You know what we’re here for. Hand it over, and we’ll let her go.”

When the hostage situation turns deadly, Faith is left with too many questions, not enough answers. To find her mother, she’ll need the help of her partner, Will Trent, and they’ll both need the help of trauma doctor Sara Linton. But Faith isn’t just a cop anymore—she’s a witness. She’s also a suspect.

The thin blue line hides police corruption, bribery, even murder. Faith will have to go up against the people she respects the most in order to find her mother and bring the truth to light—or bury it forever.

Karin Slaughter’s most exhilarating novel yet is a thrilling journey through the heart and soul, where the personal and the criminal collide, and conflicted loyalties threaten to destroy reputations and ruin lives. It is the work of a master of the thriller at the top of her game, and a whirlwind of unrelenting suspense.
