I was supposed to receive a copy of Careers in Sport, Fitness and Exercise as part of the Early Reviewer program, but my copy never found me. Recently it occurred to me to check my library system for a copy and that is the book I’m reviewing.

Careers in Sport, Fitness and Exercise is exactly what it purports to be: a fairly exhaustive guide to choosing and preparing for a job in one of mentioned fields. It is not unlike similar guides, but it rises above many in that the profiles of individuals already working in the fields show people of both genders, multiple ethnicities and a range of fitness levels. This work is appropriate for any high school, college or youth group careers collection.

Very well written and very detailed. There are many opportunities in this field. The book outlines exactly what education is needed and how to proceed. Good for any high school library and college campus library for incoming Freshman. ( )

Okay, so I finally received this book. I was looking through this book and reading some of the job descriptions and what is required for these jobs if you are looking at a career in any of the fields included in this book. I would have to say that this book is very detailed as to what is expected of someone going into any of the fields involving sport, fitness or exercise. I believe this book would make a great research material for choosing a career.

Very thorough review of career options in sports and fitness. Written for the college student trying to decide which direction to pursue. After two introductory chapters 29 specific jobs are examined in six different fields: fitness management; PE/coaching/officiating; sports marketing/management; sports medicine; allied health sciences; and higher education. Highly recommended for all students (and their parents) trying to evaluate options in these fields. ( )
