Jan Brett writes a beautiful story but the true star of the show are her gorgeous illustrations. I love how the stunning art in the central picture is augmented by the secondary story being told in the images in the side bar. She is a tee master of her craft. ( )

This book is about Hedgie (a hedgehog) and how he protects the animals on the farm from the mean boy who looks after them. He hides underneath a chicken so that the boy wouldn't take her eggs anymore.

I love Jan Brett books and this one can teach a great lesson about greed and how to be a good friend.
