Better than most novella. The immortal Billy the Kid is asked to deliver a mysterious urn (actually Pandora's Box) to Scathach, the Warrior. An old friend and lover calls in a favor, asking Scathach to rescue him from vampyres and worse. Billy decides to tag along, out of chivalry and stubbornness despite the high probability of death. Turns out the ex-lover was trained to kill by Scathach and that both Scathach and her sister Aoife fell in love with him. In the end, a bond develops between Scathach and Billy the Kid. They are both good characters, and this short story provides some additional insight into their lives and personalities.

I really enjoyed this story. Billy the Kid and Scathach are two of my favourite characters from the Nicholas Flamel series. I love how these short stories give us a little background on the characters in the books. Can't wait to read more. ( )

Billy the Kid and the Vampyres of Vegas is a novella that fits in with the Secrets of the Immortal Nicolas Flamel series, but it’s separate from the main plot, so you don’t need to read it to understand the series. It follows Scathach and Billy the Kid on a short adventure that takes them to Vegas where they battle with Vampyres.

It’s a short read and fun, overall. I liked seeing more of these characters, and it helps create more of a context for a separate character who’s mentioned in passing in the main series. I was surprised by how much extra information Scott was able to pack in these few pages, while also creating appropriate tension and conflict. It’s much better than the Joan of Arc novella, in my opinion.

It was nice to get a bit of a break from the main plot, and I loved being able to learn more about Billy the Kid. He’s becoming one of my favorite immortals so far. Like the series, I am continuously impressed by how well mythology and fantasy is blended into the real-world and just love spending time in Scott’s stories. I definitely recommend this for fans of the series!

This was substantially more about Scathach than it was about Billy, which made it significantly better. It covers a little bit of the falling out between Scathach and her sister that's mentioned in the main series, but it doesn't really offer many more details than what we got in the story-proper. Also, there were almost no vampyres in this. Little was about Billy, almost no vampyres, and the Scathach story that we *do* get adds nothing to her personality or background. It's kinda like bait and switch. ( )
