I can use this book to teach about homophones. ( )

This I can Read Level 1 features the classic character at a sleepover. The girls do all the stereotypical sleep over activities and Amelia has her usual literal thinking. She fears being bored during board games and has a sleep under when she sleeps under the pool table.
The book would be motivating for students who like Amelia Bedelia. The controlled language is generally decodable but certain words like laugh flashlight, marshmallow and glittery might need to be taught before starting to read.

This book is about Amelia Bedelia and her first sleep over. Amelia is young, innocent and very excited for what’s in store for her in her very first sleep over. I like how this book shows Amelia’s innocence through simple misconnections about simple things. For example when Amelia’s mom explains how Amelia will be painting nails at her slumber party she thinks that she will be painting the tool nail, not finger nails. This can also be a great lesson introduction for homographs and homophones. ( )
