While she talks about cats and chickens, you can relate this to a family of different ethnicity, or adopted children or a number of different scenarios. I really like this book because of the happy easy going nature the little chick has through the story. The chick does not feel ashamed for being different or scared to be seen with a cat for a mother. This book would be great in the classroom because of so many takeaways to be happy and be content with the family situation you have and do not compare yourself to others. ( ) This story is all about how a chick was adopted by a mother cat. I think this is a great story because it shows that there are all kinds of families. This would also show them that they can have families that don’t look like other families and there is nothing wrong with that because you are still a family. I also like this book because you can open a discussion about different kinds of families and different kind of friendships that they see day to day. Little Chick and Mommy Cat is about a baby chick who was adopted by a mother cat who could not have offspring of her own. The story gives instances on how they are looked at differently both from other cats in the neighborhood, and fellow chicks at school. None of the other opinions matter because they love each other, differences and all. This is a great book to use in the classroom when discussing different types of family makeups such as children living with two moms, two dads, grandparents, foster parents, adoptive parents, a mom and a dad, or any other mix up of people that love them. I thought this book was very cute as it addressed many bystanders reactions in a kid-friendly manner. no reviews | add a review
