Countless bullshit alarms went off pretty early on so I dropped it early.
The only thing I could have determined by continuing is if this should be a 1 or 2 star rating I believe. ( )

Here is a thing you need to know about this series: faeries and vampires are out in New Orleans. Magic is real, spells and charms can be sold, and there's an organization that fights magical crimes and hunts vampires.

Willow is a faery, a baker, and an agent of that magical organization: the Void. At her bakery she sells magical desserts, and for the Void she hunts vampires. Decades ago her father was murdered, four years ago her brother was, and now someone's threatening her. To keep her safe, the Void teams her up with a representative of the most powerful vampire organization in New Orleans. There's only one problem: that agent is her ex-boyfriend David who dumped her without a reason. It turns out that the reason might be that he was turned vamp. And on top of all this, her childhood crush and brother's best friend Talisen comes to town to help.

So, Willow's in a mess. She's being hunted for her abilities, some of which she's kept secret from nearly everyone. The director of the Void, her Aunt Maude, has become terrifyingly different and perhaps dangerous. Her ex and her crush hate each other, her roommate and partner Phoebe is keeping secrets, and every emotional swing is setting off her shape-changing Shih Tzu.

You're probably thinking that winged faeries wandering around New Orleans with magical cupcakes is a bad thing, or at least something so outlandish you won't bother reading it. Honestly, it fits so seamlessly into the world the author has created that you won't even think of it as odd after the first few chapters. This book and created-universe are nowhere near as light and fluffy as they seem. There's real danger there, and real problems.

Bottom line: I liked Willow and Phoebe, I liked the magical system at play, and I liked the hidden secrets. For those I dealt with the love triangle and all the secrets everyone kept from Willow. ( )

"4 out of 5 stars, one kind hearted faery deals with a conspiracy against her while trying to protect those she cares about most. This novel reminded me of an intriguing mixture of "Sunshine" & the Cassandra Palmer Series."

a nice mix of fast paced action with light romantic drama - fairly likable characters but in the end not quite my style ( )
