Along with all of Polacco's other books, I loved it. It shows the true relationship between siblings. Siblings have a bond unlike any other. They argue so much but still love each other. They are always there for each other. Richie realizes that ballet is harder than it seems and Patricia is proud of Richie when he does a good job in the recital. Patricia realizes that hockey is harder than it seems and Richie is proud of her when she wins the game for the team. It all started with a dare and then they became closer as siblings. This book is adorable and it kind of reminds me of my sister and I. We used to argue so much and now we are so much closer. No matter how much we argue though we are always there for each other and always have each others back. ( )

The very silly, true story of the author and her brother challenging each other to participate in the other one’s sport. Anyone with a sibling or a sense of humor will enjoy this story, that has, of course a touching ending. ( )

This book is about a dare between two siblings, Richie and Trisha. Trisha challenges Richie to dance in your ballet, but he will only do it if she plays on his hockey team for the big game. Both held up their sides of the dare and realized that the other was not what they expected. After, the siblings valued the others hobby and what it takes to do them. ( )

Rotten Richie and the Ultimate Dare is quit a cure and funny book. Richie and Trisha are back at competing and seeing who is the best at their hobby. These siblings find that they are both good at what they do and see it takes a lot of talent.
Curriculum connection: Compare and contrast hockey and ballet. Use two different charts to post the sameness and differences of the sports. At the end of the activity discuss how they have more sameness than differences.
Writing - Students could write about a rivalry such as the one that occurred in the book.

Rotten Richie and the ultimate dare by Patricia Polacco
This children's book is about a brother and sister. Each has their own hobby/sport and think it's better than their sibling.
She tells us of his bad habits and smells and he does the same about her. The big dare is one neither of them want to miss.
He has to go to her ballet recital and she has to go to his final hockey game. Like what they each discover.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device). ( )
