A gripping account of the bombing raids during the first years of the war. First published in 1942, Bomber Command features full maps, photographs and a description of the air assault on Germany. Reproduced with its original jacket, it is itself a memorable piece of contemporary design. Important qualities are required of a bomber pilot. He must be capable of considerable physical and mental endurance, for it is necessary for him to remain nine, ten, eleven or even twelve hours in the air. During much of the flight he may find his aircraft the object of an attack by enemy fighters far faster and more heavily armed. The bomber pilot must fly doggedly on, defending himself with the aid of darkness and cloud outside and with the skill of his crew and their machine guns inside. No library descriptions found. |
