Summary- This book is about a town that is trying to get the groundhog out of bed so they can know if winter is over. The groundhog doesn't want to get out of bed so they keep bringing him things to try to get him to get out bed. The groundhog finally gets out of bed and doesn't see his shadow. The book is fun to read with the rhyming.
Genre- This book is a fantasy since a groundhog would not actually live in a house with a bed and be talking.
Ages- K-4 I think as a holiday book for groundhog day you could read it with any age but the younger ones (k-4) would probably enjoy it the most.
Media- Ink and Wash

The thing I like most about this book is how relatable it is. For example, the groundhog character is very believable. He refused to get out of bed without first being fed and guaranteed warmth when he left his house. I think most people can relate to the struggle of getting out of bed in the morning. I also like the writing style because it was a narrative that rhymed. I also really liked the repetition. It showed the determination of the people and really enhanced story. The one phrase that was repeated a lot was “The people in town said with a shout, ‘It’s Groundhog Day! Please come out!’” however, I didn’t like the message that seemed to be portrayed. My impression of the message was that with enough bribes people will do what you them to eventually. Overall, it was a fun book. ( )

Grumpy Groundhog is a trade book. The grumpy groundhog does not want to wake up for groundhog day. Everyone is waiting to see if there will be a shadow or not. But the grumpy groundhog does not want to leave his nice and comfy bed. The people in the town have to bribe him with goods to come out and show his shadow. The illustrations in Grumpy Groundhog almost feels like the drawing are jumping out to you. From the looks of it it's pen work with color filled in. But regardless the illustrations shows off the many events going on. The facial expressions of the people of the town and the emotions the grumpy groundhog go through too. Teachers can use this book to teach about Groundhog day. It's a good example to show how the groundhog feels about waking him and showing his shadow to people. I enjoyed this book because the groundhog was a stubborn one and didn't allow much to happen to him until he as satisfy. ( )
