Arthur Read gets bullied by his classmates for not having lost any of his baby teeth yet. One bully offers to knock a loose tooth out, and another actually does. None of this bullying is addressed, and Arthur is even depicted as grateful for it in the end.

So, um, no.

No, no.

No.

This is the last Arthur book I have on hand, and I don't believe I will seek out any others. ( )

Everyone else in Arthur's class has lost at least one of their baby teeth, and they tease him for being a baby. The dentist assures him he's normal, and Francine - his worst tormentor - inadvertently helps him by knocking out a loose tooth. ( )

Genre: Fantasy
Age: Primary
Review:
Aurthur has a loose tooth and goes to the school where all the other children have already lost all their baby teeth. Francis teases him in front of everyone and excludes him from playing games with the others. She bumps into him at the end and he loses his tooth.
This is fantasy because it has talking animals in it. The animals talking fits in one of the necessities for it being a fantasy. The creatures in the book go to school, play with friends, and live lives at home. Everything they do is exactly what humans would do.
Use:
1) This book is very good in talking about excluding others. Francis is very rude to Aurthur, making fun of his baby tooth and refusing to let him play because he still has his baby tooth.
2) Talk about the dentist parts and discuss why it is not certain death to go to the dentists.
