When the Imagine Network commissioned a documentary on mermaids, to be filmed from the cruise ship Atargatis, they expected what they had always received before: an assortment of eyewitness reports that proved nothing, some footage that proved even less, and the kind of ratings that only came from peddling imaginary creatures to the masses. They didn't expect actual mermaids. They certainly didn't expect those mermaids to have teeth. This is the story of the Atargatis, lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a maritime tragedy. Whatever the truth may be, it will only be found below the bathypelagic zone in the Mariana Trench . . . and the depths are very good at keeping secrets.… (more)

It was a decent novella, but I'm not sure that I want to read the full length sequel. ( )

Deep ocean stuff already gives me the wiggins, and I know that Mira Grant can take normal stuff and make it creepy as hell, so taking creepy stuff and making it creepier...

It's okay. I'll never sleep again, but I'm fine with that. Really. ( )

I think there's a big spoiler at the end of this clever prequel 0.5 novelette. I could be wrong. I have to finish the main novel, [b:Into the Drowning Deep|34523174|Into the Drowning Deep (Rolling in the Deep, #1)|Mira Grant|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1489176444l/34523174._SY75_.jpg|55657440], to find out. I don't mind spoilers most of the time. But this? This was a big spoiler.

It was also my own fault for reading it. The foreward clearly says: "This is the story of the Atargatis". I was clearly warned.

Good book for snow day tho. ( )

Loved this, but I found the writing to be a little lackluster at times. The author's take on mermaids was fantastic. ( )

entertaining, but the length didn't work for me. This either could have been a short story, with a lot of cuts, or could have been a good novel, possibly, but I don't think it's a good novella. ( )
