Derbyshire is an area famous for its remarkable landscapes including the remarkably stunning 'Peak District National Park', the very first of Britain's National Parks. The Peak District covers an area of around 540 square miles and is a region of high moorland and towering plateaux that rise 2088 feet above sea level. Move slightly South into the Derbyshire Dales, and the area becomes less wild and isolated. It is within this region where the two main rivers, the Wye and the Derwent flow which were once heavily populated with industrial shipping traffic, along its banks are where many of the towns and villages are situated. Derbyshire has a real mix of scenic delights, a county blessed with beautiful eye-catching villages and towns, and also a county that possesses a very interesting industrial and cultural heritage, due to the close proximity of large industrial conurbations such as Derby.
