I gave this guided reading book a 5/5 because the story is very well done and the topics are those that students will most likely already have background knowledge on, but if not the teacher can provide this to the students. This book has great illustrations to support the text, that the students can also utilize when doing a picture walk before the guided reading and throughout the reading to help them figure out words they may not know. This book also utilizes word patterns as well that can help the reader. This book specifically is about Pete as a knight. A problem arises when Lady Callie is taken by a dragon so Pete has to go on a journey to save her. This text is not only a great guided reading book, but is great when introducing students to fairy tales. This book also allows the teacher to come up with many activities to engage the student in and encourages students to use their imagination. ( )

Pete the Cat is a knight who embarks on a mission to save Lady Callie the Harp player. Everyone was put under a spell and Lady Callie and her harp were taken from under everyones nose. Pete comes across a dragons foot print and follows it to the sea. The dragon is flying away but Pete does not give up he finds a boat and goes to the dragon's lair. But something surprising happens, the dragon isn't dangerous, he just wants to sing with the group. Pete comes up with an idea to gather all his friends so that they can all sing together. ( )
