Although written at an 8th level, it was very engaging and told through words from many of the main participants. ( )

This is a powerful story about the Montgomery Bus boycott. It tells how the people of Montgomery Alabama boycotted the busses for a year, to show that they would not support or tolerate unfair treatment of African Americans.

This is a non fiction book about the civil rights movement. It covers the events and people leading up to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It talks about people such as Martin Luther King Junior, E.D. Nixon, Rosa Parks, and many other less famous but important individuals. It covers events during this time and explains the political events and thoughts going on during this time in a way that children would be able to understand. This would be a good book to have in a classroom for older, more advanced readers, if you were learning about the civil rights movement and MILK Jr., or children who were very interested i historical informational books.

This is the story of the brave freedom fighters in Montgomery, Alabama that spearheaded the Civil Rights Movement in 1960s America. This story starts even before Rosa Parks played her role by refusing to give up her seat to a white person. ( )

Carter G. Woodson Award, 2007. Freedman lays the groundwork for the book's main event--the Montgomery Bus Boycott. For 381 days, African-Americans sacrificed and risked their lives for a chance at desegregation. "expertly paced" and "balanced but impassioned."
