This book had some Time Lord vibes, with the main character being whisked off to a magical realm full of wonder and giant talking cats and a Hotel that changes your room while you sleep. The characters were delightful and the adventure was high. There is a graveyard zombie chase and the bad guy a mass murder, but not much explanation or detail about what that entails. I really enjoyed this book. It was such a prefect middle grade adventure with a mix of fantasy and magic. I really was captivated by the world building and also the characters. I thought the "tasks" kept the plot to be super fast pace and engaging It was such a fun novel to read and hard to put down. I enjoyed the characters alot and loved the developing the "trio of characters that we met. The ending was a tad rushed but Overall, I really loved the book and hope to read book 2 soon! no reviews | add a review

HTML:A breathtaking, enchanting new series by debut author Jessica Townsend, about a cursed girl who escapes death and finds herself in a magical worldâ??but is then tested beyond her wildest imagination. Morrigan Crow is cursed. Having been born on Eventide, the unluckiest day for any child to be born, she's blamed for all local misfortunes, from hailstorms to heart attacksâ??and, worst of all, the curse means that Morrigan is doomed to die at midnight on her eleventh birthday. But as Morrigan awaits her fate, a strange and remarkable man named Jupiter North appears. Chased by black-smoke hounds and shadowy hunters on horseback, he whisks her away into the safety of a secret, magical city called Nevermoor. It's then that Morrigan discovers Jupiter has chosen her to contend for a place in the city's most prestigious organization: the Wundrous Society. In order to join, she must compete in four difficult and dangerous trials against hundreds of other children, each with an extraordinary talent that sets them apartâ??an extraordinary talent that Morrigan insists she does not have. To stay in the safety of Nevermoor for good, Morrigan will need to find a way to pass the testsâ??or she'll have to leave the city to confront her deadly fate. Perfect for fans of the Harry Potter series and Neil Gaiman, this fast-paced plot and imaginative world has a fresh new take on magic that will appeal to a new generation of readers. "A Harry Potter-esque adventure." â?? Tim No library descriptions found. |

Morrigan Crow is brought up believing she is cursed, but when a stranger turns up and rescues her from her fate, she begins a new set of challenges at the Wundrous Society in the secret realm of Nevermoor.
My notes:
This is one of my favourite books. It is cosy and nice and the characters are awesome. I also love the city of Nevermoor with the talking animals, the Hotel Deucalion and the tricksy lanes.
Book notes and screen notes:
There are three books in this series: Nevermoor, Wundersmith and Hollowpox. A fourth, Silverborn, is to be released soon. It is also going to be made into a movie.
