From bestselling indie author Laura Thalassa comes the newly revised and edited third book in her smash-hit dark fantasy romance between a siren and the "bargainer" she owes countless favors to.

In the beginning, there was darkness.

Before he met his soulmate, Callypso Lillis, and before he became the Bargainer or the King of Night, he was just Desmond Flynn, the bastard son of a scribe. A boy born to a weak mother in a lowly city, cursed with little magic, and destined to marry a slave. A boy taught to hide his truths from the realm of Night...and from himself.

But fate had something else in mind.

In an instant, Des loses everything, and his life becomes newly defined by a quest for revenge. From the barren caves of Arestys to the palace of Somnia to the streets of Earth, Des journeys to places he's only ever read about to destroy the king who shattered his fragile life in the shadows. What he finds will change him forever. Between the threads of fate, the business of bargains, and a centuries-long quest to find his mortal soulmate, this is how a fairy who began with nothing but darkness becomes the Emperor of Evening Stars.

what a TEASE! look, I LOVED getting Des's view point and his back ground. And hearing how he felt about Cali at that ball? UGH my heart. but what a tease to call this the third book when it didn't tell us anything more about the thief of souls!!! we went back in time instead of forward! is that a true complaint? absolutey not because i loved every second of this. But still. I need MORE. ( )

I’m conflicted on this one, other than the very last page there’s no need to read it 3rd, I think I would have enjoyed it much more after the series. It was difficult to get into with the first chapter starting from “Larissa”s point of view, took a minute to figure out that’s the bargainers mother. It was good and a well written, nice book from the perspective of Des, however there were a few repetitive chapters weve read from Callies POV that don’t add any extra insight reading again. ( )

I really enjoyed learning more about the events from the previous books from Des' POV as well as his past that was only offhandedly mentioned to Callie before. Des is a far more interesting character and this shed some light on some of the events that Callie's utter denseness prevented from being known in the previous books. Definitely wait until after you've read the first two books before reading as this goes from centuries before all the way up to the very same final scene of book 2. It seems like it will be a great segue into the next book, once that is released. ( )

I thought of just skipping this one, since I haven't been blown away by the series so far, but I still plan to finish the series and I thought events and circumstances in this one might come up, so I read it anyway. Most of the important bits are probably covered well enough in the other books, so I'm not sure it was necessary, but I suppose for my peace of mind. I would say read it if you're really digging the series, but that there's not actually any 'need to know' information not referenced elsewhere. ( )

It has been a while, but stepping back into this world was wonderful. I almost forgot how much I loved this dark fantasy. It was great seeing everything from Des's point of view. And I gotta say. I truly wish Des was real and got his hands on every rapist out there. Is that a bit evil of me? I'm ok with that. ( )
