First words
In referring to the Ordnance Map from the river Rheidol on the south to the river Llyfnant in the north, there will be observed the true position of the several Encampments, which shew great military talent and foresight of the early inhabitants of this district in seeing the necessity of protecting their country from invasion by the sea; for if a line were drawn from the Encampment of Bwadrain to Carnwen, we find only one Encampment of any considerable size, inland to the confines of the county on the east, viz., - "Dinas", near Ponterwyd, so that the great danger arose from what I may call foreign invasions, and not from internal disputes; otherwise we should find Encampments nearer to Plinlimon, which is not the case; neither have I been able to trace any indications of an Encampment nearer to Plinlimon than Dinas, or any term in that location indicating such.
